Family claims hospital negligence caused teen’s death

An active, healthy teenager is dead, and her family is wanting answers. The cheerleader had been seen by a doctor at the hospital nearby just two weeks prior after suffering from ongoing bouts of chest pain. Now, the family is claiming that hospital negligence caused the death of their child. Cases similar to this occur too often in the state of Louisiana.

According to the report, the young woman was seen at the hospital, where a doctor misdiagnosed her with chest wall pain. After receiving a prescription for pain medication and another for an antibiotic, she was sent home and told to rest in bed. The child’s grandmother told news reporters that her health just continued to decline.

The young woman could not even climb the stairs in her house without getting winded. She returned to the doctor at her hospital and was told that her illness was not serious — that she just had inflammation. Several days later, her health had declined even further.

After sending an emergency text asking for help, the 15-year-old was rushed to the hospital yet again. This time, several blood clots were found in her chest. Within hours of sending that text, the vibrant young girl was dead. The family believes that would not be the case if the doctor had diagnosed her properly on the first visit.

When hospital negligence is the cause of death in Louisiana, the family of the victim may choose to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. By consulting with a personal injury attorney, the family of the victim can learn how to proceed in order to seek damages for their loss. While not all hospital-related deaths are proven to be hospital negligence, the personal injury lawyer can advise victims and their families as to whether or not they have a case.
