Hospital sued for medical malpractice

October 2nd, 2015
On behalf of David Bowling of The Bowling Christiansen Law Firm, A Professional Law Corporation posted in Medical Malpractice on Friday, October 2, 2015.

A hospital in New Orleans has been sued following the death of an 80-year-old woman. The woman’s children on behalf of the deceased have filed the suit.

The suit alleges that the victim had a history of behavioral problems as well as a variety of other medical diagnoses when admitted to the hospital in August 2012. Her mental problems included depression and dementia. When she began to suffer from sores and diarrhea, the victim was admitted to the hospital. After a nine-day stay, she was discharged at the end of August.

However, her sores never completely healed and she passed away in hospice care a few months later. The plaintiffs accuse the hospital of medical malpractice and are seeking damages for standard of care, emotional distress, pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life as well as for medical expenses accrued.

Medical malpractice is all too common and can be difficult to take on. Because individual doctors may fall under the jurisdiction of the hospital, the institution itself may be the defendant and may have a strong team of lawyers working for them. But when someone suffers an injury or death from negligence, surgical error, failure to diagnose or other issues of healthcare error, a Louisiana medical malpractice attorney may be able to provide counsel and, if needed, representation in court. It is a good idea to seek the advice of an attorney in you feel you may have been the victim of medical malpractice.
