Like the rest of us, doctors and nurses are only human, so they’re going to make mistakes. However, that doesn’t mean they have an allowance to act in a careless or negligent manner–especially when patients’ health or lives are on the line. If you believe you’ve been the victim of medical malpractice in New Orleans and you need an attorney, we can help.

Elderly Woman Claims She Broke Her Hip Under Hospital’s Care

According to the Louisiana Record, a 90-year-old woman is suing a hospital after she allegedly broke her hip while under the staff’s care. The woman asserts that she was undergoing psychiatric evaluation at the hospital in July 2009 after doctors diagnosed her with dementia. Doctors hospitalized her due to increased confusion, agitation and hallucinations.

The plaintiff claims doctors considered her a fall risk when hospitalizing her, but she still fell while under the staff’s care. She claims she broke her hip in the fall, and she had to undergo surgery in order to fix it. She is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for physical pain and suffering, permanent damage, permanent scarring, emotional pain and suffering, physical therapy, mental anguish, occupational therapy, loss of duration of life, loss of quality of life and medical expenses.

Family of Woman Who Died of a Heart Attack Is Suing Hospital for Medical Malpractice

According to Louisiana’s Legal Journal, a deceased woman’s family is suing her doctor and the hospital where she died over the alleged lack of timely treatment before her death. The plaintiffs contend that in Apr. 2012, when the woman was 49 years old, she went to the medical center complaining of shortness of breath and chest pains. The woman, who was a smoker and had a family history of coronary artery disease, was allegedly suffering from fatigue, obesity and hypertension.

After arriving at the emergency room, the plaintiffs assert that medical staff performed a preliminary exam on the patient, including an EKG, which showed results consistent of a myocardial infarction, or heart attack. Instead of getting treatment, including a heart monitor, though, the plaintiffs claim that staff sent the woman back to the waiting room, where the treating physician failed to examine her.

The woman later collapsed in the waiting room, and she died within the hour. Her family is seeking damages in an unspecified amount for pain and suffering, loss of life, mental anguish, medical expenses, emotional distress, funeral costs, lost wages and lost income.
