Death results from a failure to diagnose a brain tumor

For many Louisiana patients, the early diagnosis of an illness could greatly affect their lives. A failure to diagnose an illness in a timely manner may seriously impact the effectiveness of treatments. In some cases, the failure to diagnose an illness may even contribute to the death of the patient.

The administrator of one man's estate has filed a complaint and alleged negligence against the hospital where the deceased received treatments and underwent testing two years before his death. She has claimed that the medical staff failed to properly diagnose and treat the deceased patient's brain tumor, which eventually resulted in his death. She is seeking in excess of $50,000 as well as court costs.

It was during the summer of 2015 that the now deceased patient was originally provided with multiple medical services. His doctors are accused of failing to review neuroimaging studies that could have helped to more quickly diagnose the patient's brain tumor. This delay in diagnosis resulted in a delay of treatment, and the patient, unfortunately, died two years later in Aug. 2017.

Identifying an illness may be difficult in some cases, but a quick and accurate diagnosis could be the difference between a patient living a fulfilling life for several more years rather than a few months. The failure to diagnose an illness, especially a serious illness, can have long-term effects on a patient's life. Patients who are not diagnosed quickly could spend large amounts of time in hospitals, receiving expensive and sometimes painful treatments in order to prevent an illness from worsening or undergoing time-consuming tests trying to identify the illness. Louisiana residents who believe that they or their loved ones have been victims of negligence may wish to consult with a local attorney in order to determine what compensation they might be due.
