Hospital negligence suit filed by other hospital's administrator

A man is suing after staff at a hospital failed to administer medication to him that might have prevented him from suffering a stroke. The stroke occurred after a medical procedure that he had at the hospital back in 2015. Ironically, the man filing the suit for hospital negligence is the administrator of another hospital. Medical malpractice cases are heard many times throughout the year in Louisiana.

The 78-year-old hospital administrator is asking for over a million dollars against the other hospital for its alleged role in his stroke. Attorneys for both parties refused to answer questions, but the man was apparently treated in the emergency room for shortness of breath and a fast pulse. These are both symptoms of atrial flutter.

He was admitted to the hospital, and a doctor ordered that he be given an anticoagulant to prevent blood clots. This would have helped alleviate the risk of stroke, according to the report. The lawsuit states that the man was never given the drug, however, and suffered a stroke as a result.

This happened twice with the same drug. Then the doctor ordered a different coagulant, which the man claims that he was never given. A nurse practitioner also ordered the new drug, and it still was not given to the man, according to the lawsuit.

When staff fails to follow the orders of a doctor, and a patient suffers injury or death because of it, that patient may have a hospital negligence case. Anyone in Louisiana who has suffered because of a similar story may choose to speak with a personal injury attorney. This medical malpractice lawyer can help the client understand the steps needed in order to file a suit and determine how to proceed in seeking compensation.
