Daughter says doctor’s failure to diagnose killed mother

August 2nd, 2017
On behalf of David Bowling of The Bowling Christiansen Law Firm, A Professional Law Corporation posted in Medical Malpractice on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

A woman is suing a medical facility in the state after claims that negligence on the part of her mother’s doctors caused her mother to die. She has filed suit both on behalf of her mother and individually for the death, filing against the Oschner Baptist Medical Center and Oschner Baptist Clinic Foundation, along with two doctors from those facilities located in Louisiana. The suit was filed in the 24th Judicial District Court citing the doctors’ failure to diagnose her mother.

The woman’s suit claims that her mother began experiencing difficulty breathing back in 2012. She was referred by her primary care physician to another doctor, whom she saw in February of that year. Although the doctor was reported to have found abnormalities of some sort during that exam, no further action was taken at that time, according to the suit.

The mother continued to have serious breathing issues, however, and went to see the second doctor again later in the month. The doctor informed that patient that she did not need a biopsy. In May, the same doctor diagnosed the woman with COPD. Her condition continued to deteriorate, and in June, she was admitted into the hospital critical care unit to treat severe issues.

In August, a biopsy was finally taken which revealed that the woman was suffering from cancer. A tumor was found, and it was determined that she was already in stage 2 or 3. She passed away in October from complications of cancer.

The daughter alleges that her mother died as a result of the Louisiana doctor’s failure to diagnose her cancer. Anyone who has lost a loved one or suffered because of the negligence of a someone in the medical field may choose to consult with a personal injury lawyer. He or she can advise the victim’s family on the best way to pursue damages in the case.
