Daughter files medical malpractice claim in Louisiana court

The urinary system in the human body is vital and essential for eliminating blood waste from the body. When the system does not function properly, the individual affected is typically uncomfortable and potentially quite ill. An infection can be fatal if not treated properly. Recently, a Louisiana man lost his life after the onset of a urinary tract infection. His daughter believes that his death may have been prevented if his physician had adequately treated her father, and she has filed a medical malpractice and wrongful death lawsuit in civil court.

The clinic and physician that are being sued employed a home health aide to visit the man for home checkups. According to records, the home health aide informed the physician of the man’s urinary tract infection in early August. The physician ordered antibiotics for treatment.

It was later discovered that the antibiotic the patient had received was resistant to the strain of bacteria that was causing his infection, making the antibiotic useless for the patient. More than two weeks later, he was admitted to a nearby medical facility. The patient was treated for six days at the facility for sepsis from the urinary tract infection. Sepsis is a serious late stage of infection that affects all bodily systems. Despite the treatment, the patient died at the medial facility.

Losing a loved one is heartbreaking under any circumstances, but learning that the death may have been prevented can be devastating. Misdiagnosis or inadequate treatment can lead to unanticipated medical bills, and unexpected burial costs for family left behind if death occurs. Experienced Louisiana medical malpractice lawyers can guide families with similar cases through the options for filing a wrongful death lawsuit in the civil justice system.
