Mother of disabled child suing facility for medical malpractice

Few things are more nerve wracking for parents than their children’s medical care. For parents of children who have a disability and need specialized treatment, the stress level only increases. One mother in Louisiana is suing a facility that was supposed to treat her child who has special needs.

The pediatric residential facility severely mishandled the treatment of the child on many occasions. At one point, the treatment he received necessitated a trip to the emergency room. The child suffers from Criduchat syndrome. Due to this, he cannot walk, talk or speak. He had been attending the facility, The Padua House, for six years.

He was doing well until October 2012, when there was a change in administration. The mother, who is the plaintiff in the case, claimed he suffered a worsened medical condition after the change. She stated the decline in his health was caused by gross negligence and substandard care from the staff at the facility. This treatment caused four separate visits to the hospital, therefore constituting four separate cases of medical malpractice. She said he was critically ill during each visit. He was also transported to the hospital on different occasions for urinary tract infections.

The compensation amount has not been released, but the mother is claiming damages for medical bills, pain and suffering for both her and her son and for her loss of consortium.

Anyone who has suffered from medical malpractice may benefit from seeking legal counsel from an experienced attorney, who may be able to help claim compensation for the plaintiff.
