Patient Files Suit Against Doctor After a Botched Hip Surgery

According to the Louisiana Record, a woman underwent surgery in November of 2011 to have doctors shave off some of the excess bone on her hip joint because it was limiting her movement. Now, she is suing her doctor because he allegedly shaved off too much bone during the procedure. The plaintiff also contends that the doctor failed to diagnose a fracture in her joint properly.

She asserts her hip joint became incredibly painful after she began physical therapy. She was unable to bear weight on the leg, and her hip joint was popping, so she underwent x-rays only to find that there was a fracture.

The patient claims she then had to undergo another surgery–a total hip replacement–and she has accused the defendant of medical malpractice. She is seeking an unspecified amount for emotional distress, mental anguish, physical pain, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life and prescription costs.

Doctor Diagnosed Man With Heartburn Before Man Died of Heart Attack

Louisiana’s Legal Journal reports on the surviving family of a man who died of a heart attack after a doctor allegedly diagnosed him as simply suffering from heartburn. The family is now suing the doctor over the man’s death. The plaintiffs assert that their father, who was 51 years old, went to the hospital with symptoms of coronary artery disease.

The emergency room’s on-duty doctor assessed him and concluded he was suffering from heart problems. Doctors later admitted the man to the hospital and placed him under the care of a cardiologist, who ran a stress test that came back with negative results for a heart malfunction. The doctor released him with heartburn medication; however, the man died at home just four days later from a heart attack.

His family is suing the cardiologist, and they allege that the doctor misdiagnosed their father’s condition. An autopsy showed the man had extensive coronary artery disease, which ultimately resulted in a ruptured artery. The man’s family is suing the doctor for wrongful death and medical malpractice.
